Genesis 4:13. Unbearable

Genesis 4:13 “And Cain said unto the LORD, My punishment is greater than I can bear.”

Overwhelmed as he faces the repercussions of his evil deed, Cain’s complaint in effect accuses God of being unjust. “The punishment you’re giving me is too much.” At the same time, however, Cain speaks an element of truth. Our sin and guilt, no matter what it is, is always more than we can bear. That is why we need the Sin-Bearer, the Lamb of God, which has so graciously been given. Tragically, Cain had already rejected the Lamb of God, leaving him no options but to bear his own sin and feel the crushing weight of its deadly penalty. Instead of repenting, he hardened in his own perversity to the point of fratricide. To make matters worse, instead of repenting of his heinous act, he justified himself and played the victim. Have you ever done that before? It’s a fast track not only to finding life unbearable, but to becoming unbearable yourself.
