Genesis 3:10. When You Fear the Voice of Love

Genesis 3:10 “And he said, I heard thy voice in the garden, and I was afraid, because I was naked; and I hid myself”

God is certainly merciful. He could have appeared in front of Adam and Eve out of thin air and completely surprised them in their nakedness, but He was kind enough to call ahead of time and let them know He was coming. He could have immediately confronted them face to face. If He had, their hearts might have stopped from the shock. As it was, the voice of Love alone was enough to put them into a full flight of complete panic.

Neither the best camouflage nor all the fig leaves in the world will ever be enough covering for sin. The Word of God pierces all our pretenses and exposes our utter nakedness. Our natural response is fear and the urge to get away. And so we run from Love.

Does the Word of God scare you? Are you afraid to you see yourself exposed, and realize your spiritual nudity? Be thankful for the Word of warning that comes to call you out today. Don’t hide from Truth. Don’t hide from Love.

The Word of God is bread from heaven. God sent it, but we must gather it, appreciate it, digest it, and live by it. These days it is increasingly scarce. Many are starving for it and don't know it because they keep feasting on bad bread that doesn't satisfy. But if we would learn to carefully gather up the fragments of the True, Heavenly Bread of Life, we would always enjoy a feast of crumbs, because even God's crumbs are miracles mighty to save (Mark 7:24-30).
