Genesis 2:23. A Name Full of Faith

Genesis 2:23 “And Adam said, This is now bone of my bones, and flesh of my flesh: she shall be called Woman, because she was taken out of Man.”

Adam was on a roll with the naming business. When he woke up and saw his partner, he picked up his job right where he had left off. The first name he gave her was woman, not Eve, and it was a name full of faith in the Word of God. How else did Adam know that Eve came from his rib when he slept through the whole process, if not by the Word of God? Whether God explained the procedure to Adam ahead of time when He promised to "make him a help meet for him" (Genesis 2:18), or whether He kept it a secret until afterward so as not to ruin the surprise, either way, Adam clearly took God’s word at face value as to the origin and appearance of Eve. Not only had he slept through the whole process, but he surely woke up without a wound, scar or any trace of his recent surgery. I doubt he felt even a bit groggy. The woman in front of him was all the evidence he needed to believe the Word of God. How about you? Will you finish the work God gives you? Will the names you give and the words you speak affirm your faith in what God says?

The Word of God is bread from heaven. God sent it, but we must gather it, appreciate it, digest it, and live by it. These days it is increasingly scarce. Many are starving for it and don't know it because they keep feasting on bad bread that doesn't satisfy. But if we would learn to carefully gather up the fragments of the True, Heavenly Bread of Life, we would always enjoy a feast of crumbs, because even God's crumbs are miracles mighty to save (Mark 7:24-30).
