Genesis 2:22a. When God Takes Away, Your Best Takeaway is On the Way

Genesis 2:22a “And the rib, which the LORD God had taken from man, made he a woman [...]”

God is a marvel of a mathematician! For Him, less is more. Creation by subtraction is not only feasible for Him, it is easy. God took a rib from Adam, but that small "loss" was really only a deposit, an investment that God gave back exponentially multiplied. The Creator used what He took from Adam to complete Adam in a spectacular, beautiful way that exceeded his wildest dreams and expectations.

God never asks us to give up anything that is not for our own good to lose. What does God need to take away from you to complete the work of your salvation? Has he asked you for your right hand or your right eye?  (Matthew 5:29-30). What is He asking you to give up that feels like a piece of your very soul? Whatever it is, you must believe that God will work wonders when you give Him what He asks. What may seem to you a horrendous loss right now, cannot compare with the exceeding and eternal weight of glory that He has prepared for you. Won't you choose to love Him more than that sinful pleasure, more than the remotest bone in your skeleton of self?

When you watch a master artisan at his work it can be difficult to understand his every move. Sometimes he adds, sometimes takes away. Yet as the product begins to take shape, you begin to understand the wisdom in the process! So when you feel there is no forward progress in the shaping of your soul for heaven, trust the Master Artisan! He makes no wasted move. If you stay surrendered to Him, you can trust that even the terrible losses that you don’t understand are working together for your good (Romans 8:28).

The Word of God is bread from heaven. God sent it, but we must gather it, appreciate it, digest it, and live by it. These days it is increasingly scarce. Many are starving for it and don't know it because they keep feasting on bad bread that doesn't satisfy. But if we would learn to carefully gather up the fragments of the True, Heavenly Bread of Life, we would always enjoy a feast of crumbs, because even God's crumbs are miracles mighty to save (Mark 7:24-30).
