Genesis 2:19b. Copartner in God's Work

Genesis 2:19b “And out of the ground the LORD God formed every beast of the field, and every fowl of the air and brought them unto Adam to see what he would call them: and whatsoever Adam called every living creature, that was the name thereof.”

After God promised to make a companion for Adam, He gave him a very specific job. He  brought Adam on board the Creation Taskforce! Until the 6th day of creation, God had named and classified the elements of His work. He called the light day and the darkness night and the firmament he called heavens (Gen 1:5, 8). But when God created the animals, He “brought them unto Adam to see what he would call them” (2:19). Imagine God guiding each brand-new bird and animal to Adam, who was surely awestruck with joyful surprise during that parade of every creature great and small! God himself thoroughly enjoyed watching Adam's reactions and seeing what names he would come up with.

Did God need Adam’s work? Of course not! But He wanted Adam to share in His joy and satisfaction, so He made Adam copartner in His creative work. He delegated responsibility and gave Adam the freedom and authority to autonomously do his assigned task in his god-given wisdom.

God has given you a part in His redemptive work today and provided the wisdom you need to do it. As you partner with God in His work of saving souls, your joy and surprise will surely be no less than Adam’s was on that first day of his existence.
