Genesis 2:19a. Why Living Creatures are so Special

Genesis 2:19a “And out of the ground the LORD God formed every beast of the field, and every fowl of the air […]”

What that may have looked like, or how God sculpted and brought to life such a multitude of species in the space of two days boggles the mind. Anyone who has studied the anatomy of any of God’s critters can begin to appreciate the seemingly endless intricacies and marvels of His designs. Which makes one wonder, did God make the plans ahead of time? On days five and six of creation did He simply pull out the blueprints for the rhinoceros, kangaroo, penguin, peregrine falcon and all the other wonderful creatures He had dreamed up and say, “Ok, today is the day to make them a reality!” Or did He just have a mega burst of creativity and make them up from scratch all at once? Someday I hope to watch Him in action and ask Him how He does it!

Not only did God use the same prime material to make animals as he did to make man, He also took the time to form them rather than simply speaking them into existence. These two facts could explain the natural affinity that some people feel for animals and birds. They should also be sufficient cause for all of us to have special regard for all of God’s creatures, from the least to the greatest.
