Genesis 2:7a. “And the Lord God formed man of the dust of the ground, and breathed into his nostrils the breath of life; […]”
God could have made man instantly, but instead He chose to take His time. He bent down and touched earth. He thrust His hands into the dirt, He put Himself into His work. God literally invested Himself in humanity! He bent down and blew a whisper kiss and man became a soul.
“In the beginning was the Word, and the Word was with God and the Word was God. All things were made by him; and without him was not any thing made that was made. In him was life; and the life was the light of men” (John 1:1, 3-4). The WORD breathed into inert nostrils: clay came to life, and man’s eyes opened.
“The entrance of thy words giveth light; it giveth understanding unto the simple” (Psalms 119:130). The breath of life now, as then, is the Word of God coming so near and intimate that it is not only heard and felt, but received and inhaled, appropriated and applied to every aspect of the being. Says Jesus Christ:
“Verily, verily, I say unto you, He that hearth my word, and believeth on him that sent me, hath everlasting life, and shall not come into condemnation; but is passed from death unto life.” (John 5:24). The Creator is bending over you today. He will send His Spirit to bring you new life through His Word today, if you will have it.
