Genesis 2:15. The First God-given Institution.

Genesis 2:15 “And the LORD God took the man, and put him into the garden of Eden to dress it and to keep it.”

The first institution that God gave to man at the very beginning of his existence was useful employment, otherwise known as work. Work was given to man before marriage and before the Sabbath rest. Work, like everything else God gives to man, is a blessing for our benefit and happiness. The employment God gave to man was agricultural, manual labor in which the exercise of hand and body unites with scientific observation, research, testing and analysis. No other type of labor is more practical for humanity’s well being and benefit on all levels of his being, physical, mental and spiritual. If everyone on earth would dedicate even a small portion of their time each week to the divinely-given occupation of gardening, what a better world this would be! Will you return to your roots and learn to tend growing gardens? There is also much dressing and keeping crying to be done for God’s planting in His spiritual garden. Won’t you take the job God offers with rolled up sleeves and a willing heart?
