Genesis 1:30 “And to every beast of the earth, and to every fowl of the air, and to every thing that creeps upon the earth, wherein there is life, I have given every green herb for meat: and it was so.”
In God’s perfect world, vegetables were for the birds! Well, okay, so they were for the beasts and insects too. Not only did every creature great and small eat vegetables, but they were strictly vegetarian, because death was yet unknown.
Have you ever noticed that the animals that stuck with their own original diet are typically more peaceful and docile than their omnivore and carnivore compadres? My question is, in the savage, blood-thirsty beasts, what changed first; their diet or their disposition? Or did both change simultaneously? Perhaps it doesn’t really matter, as long as one recognizes the dependence of each on the other. A transformed character will transform your diet, and changes in your diet will reflect in changes in your character. If you are eating beasts, it stands to reason you will be more beastly. In today’s world, most people would consider that a compliment, which is a sad commentary on Satan’s success in degrading God’s image in us and even our appreciation and desire for it. The good news is, we don’t have to stay degraded. God has given you the power to choose and take action as part of a package called grace. By His grace, choose today to make a positive change in your diet and in your character.
