Genesis 1:5 continued: “…And the evening and the morning were the first day.” Not only does the order of creation declare God to be the author of light, but also of time! He made evenings and mornings and days before He made the sun moon and stars (Genesis 1:14-16). Before the sun ever rose or set, God had already set the world to spinning, and measured off three work days.
For centuries most people believed that the sun rotated around the earth, since it appears to rise every morning and go down every night. When Galileo and Copernicus challenged that belief, they nearly paid for it with their lives at the hands of the Catholic Church, an iconic story that has been forced to pose as a poster child for the “God is incompatible with Science” club. “The Bible is anti-science!” bellyache many a skeptic and critic. But instead of blaming the reading of the Bible, they ought to blame the misreading of the Bible, for as we see in the creation story itself, day and night do not depend on the the sun. God makes plain that day and night come directly from Him without the need of the sun. That may sound crazy to you, but it is as if God is saying, “I am the author of time itself. Time ultimately does not depend on the heavenly bodies but on me!”
Don’t you think its time you learned to depend on Him too?
